Research

The focus of Holly’s research is improvement in diagnostic laboratory assays in transfusion science and immunogenetics.

Using a red cell surface attachment technology known as Kode™, Holly has designed a new assay for quantification of ABO antibodies for patients undergoing kidney transplantation and re-visited stability of complement in stored samples.

Holly collaborates with the Kode Biotech research team at Auckland University of Technology, with recent research focused on an assay to detect antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 and an educational tool to teach identification of red cell antibodies using novel cell panels.

Additional details

Dr Perry trained as a medical laboratory scientist and was in charge of a human transplantation immunogenetics laboratory before moving into academia. She completed her Masters and PhD at Auckland University of Technology. Holly has 20 years of experience of, and a love for teaching Transfusion Science in the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science. In 2022, Holly moved to the University of Otago to join the medical laboratory science team.
