From the beautiful islands of Tuvalu, Nese Ituaso Conway has recently taken up a role at the Va’a o Tautai – Centre for Pacific Health as a Senior Lecturer at the Otago Medical School, as well as taken up the role as Acting Deputy Co-director alongside Talai Nabalagi.

Dr Ituaso Conway was one of the first Tuvaluan females to graduate as medical doctors. Her work experience includes the role of Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister of Tuvalu and previously was the Director of Public Health in Tuvalu with wide networks, connections and work experience in the Pacific region in healthcare, climate change, labour mobility schemes and good governance. Her background in health services management ties in with her interests in health community education and emerging burdens of disease in the Pacific region.

In the current role she leads the teaching of the Pacific Health curriculum at the Otago Medical School, in collaboration with teachers from other campuses, and fosters support and growth of Pacific health research and services with students and Pacific communities in New Zealand and the region.
