Peter Fortes is a New Zealand Registered Comprehensive Nurse with over 30 years of experience in the aeromedical sector. His professional background encompasses critical care, military, travel, and assistance nursing. He is currently employed as a critical care flight nurse with the New Zealand Air Ambulance Service and also works part-time as a Senior Lecturer within the Occupational and Aviation Medicine Unit (OAMU) at the University of Otago.

In his aeromedical role, Peter is responsible for undertaking both domestic and international air ambulance retrievals and repatriations throughout New Zealand and the South Pacific region. He is also involved in international commercial airline medical retrievals and repatriations. Within OAMU, he contributes as a Senior Clinical Lecturer for the AVME 719 and AVME 720 papers.

Peter has maintained a longstanding involvement with Surf Life Saving New Zealand. His contributions have included volunteer surf patrol duties, surf lifeguard award instruction, regional peer support activities, officiating at surf boat competitions, surf boat manager role and participation in masters surf lifesaving competitions at both regional and national levels.

Peter resides on the Hibiscus Coast, north of Auckland, with his wife. Together, they have four adult children.
