Research

My current research focus involves the co-development of a transformative diagnostic test using the Oxford Nanopore Technologies sequencing platform with applications in the medical, agriculture, and environmental sensing sectors. This innovation has attracted funding to undertake proof-of-concept experiments toward multimodal signal detection (genetic, epigenetic and fragmentomics) in circulating tumour DNA. This test could also be expanded to other applications for other sample types in non-medical sectors.

My specialty has always centered on developing, using, and combining existing and emerging methodologies to answer various research questions. This included technical expertise utilising Next Generation Sequencing, high-throughput imaging and drug screening assays, siRNA and miRNA delivery, standard molecular biology, cell culture, and animal model systems. My background in biomedical research included investigating various aspects of gene regulation in human diseases such as cancer and virus infection (HBV, HPV, and norovirus).

My approaches have enabled the identification of disease states and targetable vulnerabilities and have led to the discovery of putative therapeutic drugs (provisional patent filing) and the development of a diagnostic test (Ministry of Science and Innovation Technology Transfer Voucher Scheme).
