Research

Research Professor Ricci Harris (Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāi Tahu) is a public health physician at Te Rōpū Rangahau Hauora a Eru Pōmare. She has a particular interest in Māori health research, epidemiology and the investigation of ethnic inequalities in Aotearoa. This has included research into sleep disorders, the classification of ethnicity, ethnic disparities in caesarean sections and cardiovascular procedures, the impact of socioeconomic position on ethnic inequalities in mortality, and the impact of racism on health and ethnic inequalities. More recently Ricci co-edited Hauora: Māori Standards of Health IV.

Ricci is currently working on the Unequal Treatment - The Role of Health Services project examining cervical cancer treatment and survival differences between Māori and non-Māori. She is also a member of Te ORA (the Māori Medical Practitioners Association of New Zealand).
