I also contribute to postgraduate Bioethics teaching and supervision of students.

Memberships
  • Health Research Council Ethics Committee (Chair, until mid-2019)

Research

Clinical ethics are a major interest and have led to collaborations and research outputs on ethical consideration of:

  • Incidental findings in surgery
  • Limits of persuasion / coercion of inpatients for physiotherapy
  • Proactive contraceptive provision
  • The use of surrogacy in NZ

Sports medicine ethics was the topic of my PhD and has led to numerous research outputs and writing a code of ethics for the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Medicine. I have also written codes of ethics for the NZ Physiotherapy Board and one for Sports Physiotherapy Special Interest Group.

My interest in professional issues and medical education has led to collaboration and the development of the CAPLE project (Creating a Positive Learning Environment). The CAPLE project is a research packed intervention to encourage positive relationships between staff and health professional students.
