The Division of Health Sciences hosts a large number of summer research scholars each year at its campuses in Christchurch, Dunedin, and Wellington.

A Health Sciences summer research scholarship involves a student completing a research project over the summer break in an area of interest, such as clinical or laboratory-based research, biomedical science, ethics, or public health.

Students wishing to apply for a Health Sciences summer research scholarship can choose from one of the following schemes:

Requirements for all summer research scholarships

All supervisors wishing to host a summer student, funded from any source, must comply with the below requirements:

  • All projects must go through scientific assessment before being funded.
  • Ethical approvals must be in place before the start of the project. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to obtain all necessary approvals.
  • All students must provide a final report to their funder and host Department/School, if they are different.
  • Departments/Schools should manage ethical compliance for all projects taking place in their team over summer and keep records of all the summer research projects using the provided coversheet.
