The University of Otago is launching a new brand. Find out more

The Clinical Research Centre is the home of a Hologic Horizon A DXA (Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) scanner.

DXA is accepted as the gold standard measure of bone density and body composition.

We can provide accurate measurements for research studies and for a wide range of clinical conditions. A scan gives accurate calculations of percentage body fat, fat mass, muscle mass, bone density, and how this compares to population averages.

The Centre meets all relevant safety standards and has approved operators on site to undertake scans.

The scanner is used by both researchers and individuals.
