The aim of the paper is to further develop technical and interpretative skills, building on experience in MUSI140. Students receive weekly small group or individual lesson time depending on area of study.
This paper can be taken in the following subject areas: Classical, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Traditional/World Music (Instruments listed below). Departmental permission is required as areas are subject to numbers enrolled and staff availability.
Approved World Music Options: Taonga Pūoro (traditional Māori instruments), Taiko (Japanese drumming), Koto (Japanese zither) or Scottish piping or drumming. No auditions are required for these instruments.
After completing enrolment, Performance Students must email the Office to advise which musical instrument/s they have chosen to study.

- (i) Can lead to MUSI 340 or MUSI 243. (ii) Can be taken in a second instrument but may not be taken in the same year as MUSI 243 (except in the taonga pūoro, taiko or koto options). (iii) Cannot be credited to a degree if MUSI 243 has already been passed in the same instrument or voice.
