There are several scholarships available to law students. The following require an application for consideration.
Otago Law Alumni Scholarship
We welcome your application for the Otago Law Alumni Scholarship for the Faculty of Law at the University of Otago.
This scholarship is to provide support to high achieving, deserving year 13 students who aspire to study Law at Otago.
For many students the practical aspect of attending our fine University is merely a dream and one that appears to be out of their reach. This scholarship will give support to deserving students that may otherwise not have this opportunity.
This will provide financial support for tuition fees or accommodation fees in their 1st year of studying Law.
Alumni and friends of the Faculty of Law have gifted funds to provide scholarships for students who have demonstrated academic ability and who can show significant financial need.
Value: $6,000 in the form of reduced Residential College fees and/or tuition fees for the first year of study

Clarrie Stevens Memorial Scholarship
The Clarrie Stevens Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 by the Trustees of the Rua and Clarrie Stevens Charitable Trust, in memory of prominent Dunedin lawyer, the late Clarrie Stevens. The Scholarship is awarded annually to students in the final year of study for the degree of Bachelor of Laws or Bachelor of Laws with Honours. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated special ability in the areas of wills and trusts or commercial law. Financial need, as well as academic ability, will be taken into account in awarding the Scholarship.

Sir Harold Barrowclough Scholarship
The Sir Harold Barrowclough Scholarship was established in 1972. Sir Harold Barrowclough bequeathed the sum of $2,000 to the University of Otago to establish scholarships for students of the Faculty of Law.
Scholarship guidelines:
- The scholarship may be awarded only to students who are or have been students of the Faculty of Law of the University of Otago and who, having completed their LLB degrees, are proceeding to a higher degree in New Zealand or overseas.
- The scholarship shall be awarded by the University Council on the recommendation of a selection committee consisting of the Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of the Faculty of Law or their nominees. If they are unable to agree on any matter, it shall be referred to an enlarged Committee consisting of the Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Law and the President of the Otago District Law Society or their nominees.
- The University Council may fix or vary the amount to be paid annually to the scholar.
- Unless otherwise decided by the University, the scholarship shall be tenable for one year, but, on the recommendation of the Selection Committee, it may be extended to two or three years.
- The scholarship shall be tenable with any other scholarship.
Value: The amount of the prize may vary from year to year, but is usually in the range $1,000–$1,200.

Jolene Patuawa-Tuilave Māori Leadership in Law Scholarship
Established by the University of Otago Council in 2013 in remembrance of Jolene Patuawa-Tuilave, a promising University of Otago graduate treasured by both colleagues and whanaunga in her short professional career. The contributions towards this scholarship serve as a testament to her lifetime that became her legacy upon her passing in June 2010.
Applicants must be:
- a University of Otago Māori student
- studying full-time towards the final year of a double degree, which includes a Bachelor of Laws
Value: $3,000
Applications close: 10 October each year
