Provides strategic leadership to support knowledge development, sharing and co-ordination of school-science-community engagement initiatives in Marine Science. Sally also oversees management of the NZMSC including fund development.
Sally is also a member of the Coastal People: Southern Skies collaboration that connects communities with world-leading, cross-discipline research to rebuild coastal ecosystems.
Coastal People: Southern Skies
Adelle supervises all aquarium collections and animal husbandry. She catalogues and maintains aquarium collections and databases and ensures all aquarium operations comply with animal ethics, permits and codes of practice. Her role includes development of new aquarium tank displays and assistance with the development of interpretive exhibits.
John cares for the marine animals and plants held in the Aquarium, assists with animal and plant collections and operates small boats. John also helps with the delivery of education programmes for schools and adult groups.
Community Engagement Co-ordinator
Tamlyn manages community events lead by the NZ Marine Studies Centre, including delivery and promotion. Some events include those for Seaweek, Wild Dunedin, Conservation Week and the International Science Festival. Tamlyn also supports various citizen science projects associated with the NZMSC including Marine Metre Squared, Shark Spy and the Fishy Webcams.
Based in the NZ Marine Studies Centre office, Casey carries out reception and clerical duties for the NZ Marine Studies Centre and the Portobello Marine Laboratory.
Educator – Secondary level
Hanna coordinates, develops and teaches Marine Science education programmes for secondary schools (with a focus on curriculum and assessment needs). Hanna trains and supervises postgraduate students to assist in the delivery of these programmes.
Educator – gifted and talented
Steve coordinates, develops and teaches Marine Science education programmes for gifted and talented students (residential programmes which provide academic, social and cultural opportunities). Steve trains and supervises postgraduate students to assist in the delivery of these programmes.

Responsible for teaching primary education programmes through the Marine Studies Centre and assisting with the organisation, development and promotion of these programmes.
Educator - Nelson Region
Based in Nelson, Richard is responsible for teaching the NZMSC primary and secondary education programmes in the Nelson and Tasman region, and for the development and promotion of these programmes.
Teaches in the education programme, specialising in Year 13 and Gifted & Talented programmes. Jean maintains the Marine Life database and is involved with the Marine Metre Squared citizen science project. She often helps create new resources as required.
