Centre Director: Professor G David Baxter TD
Professor G David Baxter TD is the Director of the Centre for Men's Health in New Zealand. David previously served as the Director of the New Zealand National Science Challenge for Ageing Well (2014-2018), the Deputy Director of the New Zealand-China Non-Communicable Diseases Research Collaborating Centre (2016-2018), and the Dean of the School of Physiotherapy, University of Otago (2005-2015). He also led the University of Otago's multidisciplinary Research Themes on Rehabilitation and Disability (2007–2011).
David’s research expertise is in the fields of men’s health, rehabilitation, low back pain, complementary and alternative medicine, physical activity and health, as well as laser therapy.
David has authored or co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed research papers in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, and contributed to various textbooks including DeLisa's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (5th edition). He is the Editor in Chief of Physical Therapy Reviews, and a member of the Editorial Boards of a number of other international peer-reviewed journals. He has presented multiple platform or poster presentations and educational workshops at national and international meetings. David has been recognised as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Ireland, and the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery; he is also an Honorary Life Member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in the UK.
Assistant Research Fellow: Dr Lizhou (Liz) Liu
Dr Lizhou Liu is an Assistant Research Fellow at the Centre for Men's Health, working closely with Professor Baxter to design and implement long-term research strategies for the Centre.
Lizhou’s research interests include rehabilitation, complementary and alternative medicine, and men’s health.
