Inaugural Professorial Lecture - Professor Lara Friedlander
Embracing opportunities and arching connections
About Professor Lara Friedlander's research
Lara is the Associate Dean Postgraduate and Head of Discipline for Endodontics in the Faculty of Dentistry. As a specialist endodontist, she is recognised nationally and internationally for her contributions to dental education and clinical excellence.
Lara’s research has a strong translational focus, bridging laboratory discovery in pulp biology with clinical application to benefit patients. Her PhD at the University of Otago was inspired by personal experience and explored the healing potential of immature teeth, focusing on opportunities to preserve pulp vitality and improve clinical outcomes following dental trauma.
Throughout her career, Lara has remained strongly committed to partnering with the dental profession through practice-based research and international governance roles where she works to ensure diverse perspectives are incorporated, research evidence is implemented, and practitioner and graduate competence continues to grow globally. She is recognised internationally for her expertise on the interplay between diabetes and endodontics and now leads multi-institutional research collaborations and contributes to international advisory groups focused on vital pulp treatment, tissue regeneration and dental innovation. Importantly, her work has enhanced contemporary approaches to endodontic practice and informed how dentists and specialists are trained.
Passionate about teaching and mentoring, Lara takes great pride in supporting and celebrating the success of her students and colleagues
