Thank you for your interest in postgraduate study in Women's Health at the University of Otago. Our programmes include papers in obstetrics and gynaecology and are designed for midwives, general practitioners, and continuing medical education registrants.

Places are limited so admission is subject to a competitive process.

Postgraduate Certificate in Pregnancy and Medical Gynaecology

60 points

The Postgraduate Certificate in Pregnancy and Medical Gynaecology is designed for medical practitioners and allied health professionals wishing to improve their knowledge of women's health. It can be adapted to your educational needs and experience.

Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology

120 points – medical degree and clinical attachment required

The Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology provides a comprehensive practice-based education in obstetrics and medical gynaecology. It is particularly suitable for general practitioner trainees and doctors considering a career in obstetrics and gynaecology or sexual and reproductive health.

  • PGCertPMG – Postgraduate Certificate in Pregnancy and Medical Gynaecology
  • PGDipOMG – Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology
1 November

Closing date for:

  • PGCertPMG and PGDipOMG – Will vary slightly every year in early November for each calendar year.  For confirmation please contact: wch.distancelearning@otago.ac.nz
  • PGCertPMG – This round will admit up to 20 PGCertPMG applications, and will fill places with eligible candidates.
  • PGDipOMG – Vacancies will be filled according to ranking (as per selection criteria), with a maximum of 40 PGDipOMG places.

Applications received after the closing date will be considered on a case by case basis dependent on available on spaces in the programme and or papers. For further information please contact: wch.distancelearning@otago.ac.nz

Application process

  1. Applicant makes a formal application to either the PGCertPMG or PGDipOMG
  2. All required supporting documentation to be provided and uploaded by the applicant (see below)
  3. Applicant must submit the completed application by the relevant closing date (see above)
  4. The Department of Women's and Children's Health Admissions Committee will review all applications using the listed set of criteria (see below)
  5. The Department will advise applicants of the outcome (and aim to provide this decision within 4 weeks of the relevant closing date)

Applicants should follow the University of Otago application process using their eVision portal.

Supporting documentation

Applicants should upload all required documents (listed below) to their eVision portals prior to the relevant closing date. The Admissions committee will not consider any applications, which do not include all required documents.

PGCertPMG

Please upload the following documents with your application into eVision:

  • Official degree certificate(s)
  • A curriculum vitae outlining your experiences relevant to the selection criteria (see below)
  • Any additional information that may support your application

PGDipOMG

Please upload the following documents with your application into eVision:

  • Official degree certificate(s)
  • A curriculum vitae outlining your experiences relevant to the selection criteria (see below)
  • Supplementary form (PDF) which includes your Medical Council number and outlines details of your clinical placement (this form will also be provided as part of the application process in eVision).
  • Any additional information that may support your application

Selection criteria

Applicants will be assessed and ranked according to this criteria, and where places are limited, priority will be given to those with the highest ranking.

Applicants are therefore encouraged to tailor their curriculum vitae and supporting documentation to address the criteria identified.
