Dean Armitage is a full-time musician and University of Otago alumnus (Bachelor of Music) currently serving as the bass tutor for the Contemporary Music Performance course.

Dean’s diverse career spans regional festival stages and global industry milestones. He has performed extensively across New Zealand with various acts, and is currently the driving low-end for the Dunedin based band Bo and the Constrictors.

Internationally, Dean’s work with the pop-rock duo The Claxtons earned them a spot on the official first-round voting ballots for both the 57th and 58th Grammy Awards. During this era, the duo also collaborated with legendary American composer and arranger Benjamin Wright, who lent his signature live string orchestration to two of their tracks.

His passion for music continues to drive his career as he actively writes, records, and performs throughout the South Island, translating his extensive stage, studio, and industry experience into practical mentorship for aspiring bassists.
