Research summary
Delivery of pharmceuticals to the brain

Research

My primary research interests are the development and evaluation (physicochemical and biological) of novel formulations for delivering pharmaceuticals to the brain. Specifically, I am interested in self-assembled liquid crystalline nanoparticles for targeted delivery of peptides/proteins to the brain.

  • Development and validation of healthy and diseased (epilepsy) blood-brain barrier (BBB) models in the zebrafish.
  • Understand factors affecting drug permeability/transport across the healthy and diseased (epilepsy) BBB.
  • Formulation and physicochemical characterisation of self-assembled liquid crystalline nanoparticles (cubosomes and hexosomes).
  • In vivo evaluation of formulations in rodent and zebrafish models.
