I am interested in the global politics of development, poverty, and inequality, and also do research on how leading powers in Africa view their role in the world order.

My DPhil is from Stellenbosch University, South Africa (1984), and I have been a visiting professor in Germany, Japan, South Africa, and Vietnam. I am a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Germany).
