Overview

People with diabetes mellitus are more likely to suffer from cardiovascular disease, a leading cause of death in these individuals. Pharmacological treatments do not completely correct the underlying disease.

Our team is aiming to develop novel approaches to overcome this limitation. In particular, our focus on understanding molecular mechanisms mediating the disease and to develop novel molecular based therapies to treat the diabetic heart. Our lab uses in vitro techniques such as cell culture, cell characterization and molecular analysis such as real-time PCR and western blotting analysis and in vivo techniques such as rodent models of myocardial infarction and limb ischaemia.
