The structure and function of the brain related to the processing of emotional faces with different levels of anxiety

Overview

We have collected behavioural data related to the perception of emotional faces from 200 individuals with different levels of anxiety (from low anxiety through to those with a clinical diagnosis). Those with low and moderate levels of anxiety (n=100) also underwent structural, functional and diffusion MRI scanning of the brain, such that we can now investigate the neural correlates of sensitivity to emotional faces. Additionally, those with moderate anxiety (n=70) underwent an 8-week exercise intervention to improve their anxiety, before repeat behavioural tests and MRI scanning were conducted.

This project can therefore consider both the relationship between anxiety, emotional face processing and brain structure and function at baseline, as well as changes associated with improved anxiety following an exercise intervention.

This project would be best suited to someone who has a background in psychology, neuroscience, computer science or a related field.
