Overview

Dr John Greenleaf Houghton (1940–1979) was on leave at the University of Otago from the University of Nevada in Reno, USA, when he was killed in the Air New Zealand DC10 crash on Mt Erebus, Antarctica, 29 November 1979.

Planted in 1983, but was removed to make way for the St David II building. A replacement tree was planted in July 2000.
