Dr Hitaua Arahanga-Doyle’s (Ngāi Tahu, Te Ati Haunui-a-Pāpārangi) research focuses on the field of social psychology, often linking elements of core Māori values, such as whanaungatanga, with contemporary social psychological theories, such as belonging and social-identity. His further fields of study have examined adolescent resilience, self-esteem, and cultural understanding of identity.

Hitaua received his PhD from the University of Otago in 2021. During his PhD (2019) Hitaua received a Fulbright Graduate award and conducted research at Stanford University and Northwestern University as a Visiting Student Researcher. In 2020, Hitaua was a winner of the University of Otago’s ‘20Twenties Young Alumni Award’ and in 2022 he was profiled in the University’s magazine, He Kitenga – Talented Futures.
