    Overview

Group research projects in selected areas of psychology.

The PSYC 331 Applied Psychological Research course has been designed to provide a bite-sized experience to step into the shoes of a researcher in psychology. You will be presented with an opportunity to apply your research skills and knowledge learned in 100- and 200-level psychology courses to a group project. This 100% internally assessed paper uses the topic of the group project as the basis for each of the assessments, where you get the opportunity to ask and answer critical questions in qualitative and quantitative psychological research. This course is also an excellent way to prepare yourself for postgraduate study.

    Paper Structure

PSYC 331 consists of both lectures and lab classes. In the 12 lectures, you will be guided through both qualitative and quantitative research processes in psychology. The lecture content is designed to expand on the skills and knowledge you acquired in 100- and 200-level.

The lab classes in weeks 2 to 12 will let you take on the role of research in a group project, to apply your research skills. Each group project is led by a mentor who will guide and assist you through the project and each assessment.

The final week of semester is dedicated to sharing the findings of your study (group project) which is a key element of the scientific method. The student symposium (one of the internal assessments) is where groups of students get to present their group project to members of their course, and with postgraduate students and staff from the Department of Psychology, in the style of a pecha kucha presentation.
