Background

Kerri Cleaver is an indigenous Kāi Tahu, Kāti Māmoe Waitaha wāhine and social work academic.

Kerri lectures in the Social Work Department at the University of Otago, bringing an advocacy and social justice focus with research priorities in indigenous child protection, the foster system, mana wāhine and pūrākau (Māori storying).

Kerri has worked across child protection and kaupapa Māori towards decolonising social work and systems. Kerri engages in land-based resurgence as the foundation of family flourishing where children, as future ancestors, are the heart and centre and are recognised as our future ancestors.
