Once you've submitted your application, Otago will process it for University admission and/or programme admission.

University admission process

New students

If you're a new or recommencing student, we'll check your eligibility for University admission by:

  1. Verifying your identity
  2. Checking your University Entrance qualification
  3. Verifying that you meet minimum age and language requirements

If you're still at school and expecting to gain University Entrance through NCEA, CIE or IB, in most cases Otago will receive your results automatically when they are released. However, you may still need to provide evidence of identity or other information. Your application will be in a 'University admission pending' state until Otago has received all relevant information.

You'll be contacted via your eVision portal if you need to provide any information or documentation.

Returning students

If you're a returning student applying for a new programme, we'll have already checked that you're eligible for University admission. However, you'll still need to wait for the outcome of your programme admission assessment.

Programme admission process

For all applications, we'll assess the application against the admission criteria and, if necessary, we'll request any additional documentation we need to make the decision. You'll be contacted via your eVision portal if you need to provide any information or documentation.

We'll then normally either offer you a place in the programme or decline your application. Not all decisions are made at the same time. Some applications can be assessed once all required documentation is received, while others may need to wait until the relevant admissions committee has met.

Your place may be conditional upon providing further information, completing further steps, or gaining University admission.

Accepting your offer

The University will inform you of the outcome of the University admission and/or programme admission process, and (if appropriate) make you an offer via eVision.

You can either accept or decline the offer. Once you've accepted your offer, you can proceed to course enrolment.

International students

If you're an international student, you'll need to pay your fees after accepting an offer. Once your payment is complete, you can request a tuition fee receipt for your student visa application. Keep in mind that a valid student visa is required before you can finalise your enrolment.

Remember to regularly check your eVision portal for any notifications or requests for additional information.

Scholarships

If you're a new full-time, first-year student (either domestic or onshore international) and applying for undergraduate study, you may have also applied for entrance scholarships in the 'My scholarships and awards' section in eVision.

You'll be considered for all applicable scholarships and awards open on the date we receive your application.

For most entrance scholarships, you'll will receive an alert in your eVision portal to advise you on the outcome of your application by mid-October.
