Overview

The Christchurch Heart Institute is seeking enthusiastic Master’s or PhD students to join an exciting, translationally focused research programme developing a novel cardioprotective therapy for heart attacks.

This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated researcher to join our dynamic Cardiac Physiology team and help test an innovative treatment designed to dramatically reduce heart damage following a myocardial infarction.

Our team has uncovered the powerful activity of a protein with remarkable cardioprotective properties, opening the door to a potential breakthrough in heart attack treatment. This work aims not only to limit cardiac injury but also to enhance functional recovery and long‑term outcomes for patients.

If you are passionate about translational cardiovascular research and motivated to contribute to discoveries that could change clinical practice, this project offers an exciting and impactful research environment.

About the position

Multiple positions are available within this broader research programme. We are particularly seeking flexible, creative, and highly motivated students eager to address important research and clinically relevant questions at the intersection of cardiac physiology, cardioprotective mechanisms, preclinical models, and biodiscovery.

Ideal candidates will be excellent team players with a strong enthusiasm for learning new technologies and contributing to a collaborative, translational research environment.

Candidates with experience in cardiac physiology or cell culture are particularly encouraged to apply.
