Established in 2014 by the University of Otago in memory of Professor Barbara Heslop (1925–2013), who graduated from the Otago Medical School in 1948 and had a forty-year career at Otago in the Departments of Pathology and Surgery, specialising in transplantation research. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students to undertake an approved one-year honours research degree in the disciplines of Pathology or Immunology.
Applicants must be:
- a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand Residence Class Visa Holder, and
- approved for admission to any of the following honours degrees in the Division of Health Sciences (Dunedin, Christchurch or Wellington) in either Pathology or Immunology:
- Bachelor of Medical Science with Honours (BMedSc(Hons)) (medical students), or
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science with Honours (BBiomedSc(Hons)), or
- Bachelor of Science with Honours (BSc(Hons)), or
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science with Honours (BMLSc(Hons)).
