Between Success and Failure: The empowerment of Survival Entrepreneurs, a Case Study of Indonesian Street Food Vendors
This study will investigate the phenomenon of survival entrepreneurship in the context of Indonesian street food vendors. Survival entrepreneurs largely proliferate in developing countries, most likely because of poor economic conditions and lack of other job options. The purpose of this study is to understand the empowerment process of survival entrepreneurs. The term empowerment is sometimes misunderstood as something that can be done to other people. In truth, empowerment is the opposite of charity, generosity, or the application of control over others. This research believes the main principle of empowerment is that it should be centered on the people who are being empowered. It is not about the people who empower others because they have more power or a better life. This study recognizes that empowerment is similar to the process of enlightenment. It emerges within an individual and is signified by an increase in a person’s power. Empowered people should be able to freely choose their own well-being conditions and the means to achieve them.
