Sarah Pirikahu imageResearch interests and activities

Sarah is a research fellow in the Health Protection Aotearoa Research Centre.

She has a background in mathematics and statistics and her interests lie in using mathematical methods to help better understand public health problems. She has developed novel Bayesian methodologies to estimate population based measures of risk reduction, explored the clinical use of risk factors for breast cancer to improve health outcomes through early diagnosis, and developed mathematical models to estimate the effect of interactions between respiratory viruses.

She is currently the lead researcher of a Te Niwha funded project to identify opportunities where infectious disease modelling and enhanced surveillance could improve the prevention and control of infectious disease in Aotearoa.
