Volunteering at Arana
Our Assistant Warden, Kirsten Eichstaedt and her dog Taz, discovered the SPCA Dog Squad, which coordinates visits by selected dogs and their owners to the hospital children’s ward, rest homes and residential care units around Dunedin.
We had our volunteering day in Orientation Week and completed 1402 hours as a college across 23 projects. We supported organisations such as ChatBus, Sinclair Wetlands, Otago Community Hospice, George St Normal School, Plunket, STOP and many more. 334 residents and staff turned out for a one day effort. There are other ongoing volunteer opportunities too, we have just completed a one day blood collection for New Zealand Blood at the college and coming up next is the University of Otago Relay for Life.
Arana College students’ contribution to the Salvation Army foodbank could not have been better timed this year. Follow link to read more.
