Overview

Hot Health was 2018's addition to DSM's family of events, with the intention of bringing the School and wider community together for an informal evening of networking and discussion, with the opportunity to hear from a variety of speakers give talks on hot topics.

Hot Health events were hosted on the first Thursday of every month by the Dunedin School of Medicine, Te Kura Whaiora o Ōtepoti, and the Southern District Health Board. Hot Health has concluded for 2018.

Hot Health calendar and recrodings

Hot Health was held from 5pm to 6:30pm on the first Thursday of each month starting April through August 2018. Complimentary drinks and nibbles will be provided to kick off each event from 5pm.

Information for presenters

Presenters for Hot Health events include research, clinical, and academic staff from Dunedin School of Medicine, the Otago Medical School and related organisations, such as the Southern District Health Board and WellSouth.

Changing allocated presentation date(s)

If a speaker wishes to change their presentation date, please notify your contact person at least 15 business days prior to the scheduled presentation.

Funding for visiting lecturers

Funding for visiting speakers within New Zealand is available, by application, to support travel and accommodation. Please contact your contact person at the Dean's Department for further information.

Presentation guidelines

Planning your presentation:

  • Presentations should be topical and of general interest to a wide audience of staff and students, as attendance is multi-disciplinary
  • Presentations that are interactive, controversial, and / or provide updates on new research are well-received
  • Presentations should be 40 minutes long, plus 10–15 minutes for discussion

Upon confirming their availability, speakers are asked to submit:

  • Name and position
  • Title of presentation
  • Name of person to introduce speaker (usually the Head of Department or visiting lecturer host)
  • Short presentation abstract (100-250 words)
  • Photos, images, and / or logos relevant to the presenter(s) and their research
  • A web link to a preferred bio for each speaker

On the day:

  • The Dunedin School of Medicine's ICT Support Group staff will be on-hand to provide technical support
  • Presenters should arrive at the lecture theatre by 4:50pm to ensure that all IT requirements are met.
