Development of a new Campus Master Plan
We are currently in the process of updating our Campus Master Plan – the document which guides how we deliver value to the University and community through the unique character and purpose of our places.
The University’s current Master Plan was adopted in 2010. The plan was highly ambitious, and we have delivered on significant aspects of it. However, much has also changed since then – we have experienced a global pandemic, increased competition, and, like universities around the world, significant financial challenges.
A new Master Plan will better support the University’s Vision 2040, our commitment to becoming a Te Tiriti-led institution, and achieving our Pae Tata strategic plan. The Master Plan will take a strategic and responsive approach to campus planning, setting an aspirational vision for the future but grounded in the reality of affordability.
The Master Plan will clearly map the character and purpose of each of our campuses and articulate the priorities for each. This will help enable student experiences and learning, build strong local strategic partnerships, and contribute to communities across Aotearoa.
Have your say
We have been engaging with key internal and external stakeholders about the Campus Master Plan and ran a short survey from 10 March to 12 April 2026 inviting feedback from staff, students and the wider community.
The survey has now closed. Thank you to everyone who took part – your feedback will be considered as part of the process of developing the Master Plan.
What happens next?
We are taking an iterative approach to updating the Campus Master Plan.
Once we have heard from various stakeholders to better understand their desires and needs for campus, the project team will prepare a proposal which considers this feedback as well as the University’s strategic direction. The proposal may provide different options or priorities for the University’s governance to consider.
Once a preferred option has been identified, the Master Plan will be presented to University governance in the latter part of 2026 for approval.
