Apply online to live in Otago’s residential colleges or University Flats. Find out how to apply, application dates, and how the colleges application process works.

Who can apply

To apply for Otago's residential colleges or University Flats (UniFlats), you must be a current or future student of the University of Otago (including the Pathway | Te Huarahi programme) or Otago Polytechnic.

How to apply

If you are applying to study at the University of Otago, start your residential college or University Flats application online through eVision.

  1. Create your eVision account

    To create your eVision account, you need to choose a qualification to apply for, and start your study application.

    If you're not sure yet what you want to study, that's OK! You can easily change your selected qualification in eVision later. You can create an account and apply for accommodation in the meantime.

  2. Start your accommodation application

    In your eVision portal, find the link under “My details” for residential colleges and Uni Flats. This will take you to Te Puna, Otago's StarRez accommodation portal, where you can register and begin your accommodation application.

If you have already started your application for residential colleges or UniFlats and need to log back in to complete it, you can log in to Te Puna directly using your personal email address.

Pathway | Te Huarahi students

If you are a Pathway student enrolling in the DipArts, DipCom or DipSc, please follow the standard first year accommodation application process, starting in your eVision portal.

If you are a Foundation Studies Certificate student, you are not required to create an eVision account. You can apply for accommodation via the student accommodation portal, Te Puna.

Otago Polytechnic students

Otago Polytechnic students can only apply for limited places to stay at Salmond College. Application is via the student accommodation portal, Te Puna.

Application dates

Applications open: 1 August for all students

Applications due: 30 September for domestic students, and international students already in New Zealand

Applications due: 1 December for international students applying from outside New Zealand

Due dates are for the first round of offers-of-place, which are sent out in early October. Applications can still be made after 30 September, and will be considered if places are still available.
