Academic Performance and Development Policy, Guidelines and Framework
We are seeking feedback from our Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka – University of Otago staff community on proposed new policy documents relating to Academic Performance and Development by Monday 10 November.
This stage of consultation follows the mahi of a 2024 Working Group and engagement with stakeholder groups over 2024 and 2025. The proposed new documents are:
- Academic Performance Development Policy – sets the guiding principles for Academic Performance and Development.
- Academic Performance and Development Review Guidelines – provides detail on how we run the formal processes for setting objectives and reviewing performance.
- Academic Performance Development Framework – describes performance objectives for academic staff, which are interpreted flexibly and equitably, supported by the Policy and Guidelines.

The information pack, including a memo and proposed new policy documents, provides the background to the creation of these new documents.

Feedback is open from Monday 18 August to Monday 10 November 2025.
Next steps
Following the close of the consultation period on Monday 10 November, all feedback will be reviewed, and amendments may be made to the proposed documents based on feedback received.
The proposed policy documents will then move through the approval process with consideration by the Vice-Chancellor.
Approval of the Academic Performance Development Frameworks rests with the Academic Staffing Advisory Committee.
