International freight
Importing into New Zealand
Biological, chemicals, and dangerous goods
Before initiating an import, consult your Sector Manager or Departmental Lab Manager to ensure that any required Import Permits or Manufacturer Declarations are in place.
- Sector Managers hold relevant permits and declaration templates.
- For dangerous goods, provide the Safety data sheet (SDS), available via Chemwatch or the manufacturer's website.
Safety data sheets - Request a Commercial invoice from your supplier.
- Submit all documentation along with the completed Courier request form to logistics@nzmail.co.nz, and copy in your supplier contact.
Note: All international freight organised through NZ Mail Group is a door-to-door service, including customs clearance charges.
Non-biological and equipment
Complete the Courier request form and send it to logistics@nzmail.co.nz. NZ Mail Group will liaise with you regarding shipping and estimates.
Exporting from New Zealand
- Contact your overseas counterpart to confirm the import/customs documentation required for their country.
- Complete a Commercial invoice.
- Send the completed Courier request form and all supporting documents to logistics@nzmail.co.nz. NZ Mail Group will liaise with you and assist with managing the freight arrangements.
Packaging and dry ice
If the carrier is to provide packaging and dry ice, they will contact you directly to arrange a suitable meeting time.
Domestic freight (within New Zealand)
Sending products
Biological/imported products
Check with your Sector Manager or Departmental Lab Manager to determine if an MPI Transfer Request is required.
- For dangerous goods, attach the Safety data sheet (SDS), found on Chemwatch or the manufacturer’s website.
Safety data sheets - Your Sector/Departmental Manager can also advise on packaging requirements.
- Complete the Courier request form and send it to logistics@nzmail.co.nz. NZ Mail Group will liaise with you regarding shipping and estimates.

Temperature-sensitive or chemical freight
- NZ Mail Group will provide an estimated cost. You must confirm acceptance by email before the shipment is processed.
- The carrier will contact you to arrange collection.
- If packaging and dry ice are needed, the carrier will coordinate a meeting time with you directly.
Additional requirements
- A valid PL or GL code must be provided. The shipment cannot proceed without it.
- Items must be packaged appropriately and delivered to the designated collection point for pickup.
