    Why minor in Buddhist Studies

Buddhism shapes the history and culture of many Asian societies and continues to influence how people understand identity, community, and meaning.

The minor in Buddhist Studies introduces you to Buddhism through its Indian beginnings, then guides you into its growth across other parts of Asia. You can also study the languages used in Buddhist scripture, including Sanskrit, Chinese, or Japanese.

Whether you are looking to bridge your undergraduate studies to advanced knowledge or aiming to specialise in a specific field, Otago offers a range of graduate and postgraduate options to suit your aspirations.

Explore Buddhist thought, history, and language in a way that enriches your major

Buddhist Studies works well with subjects that explore people, culture, and ideas. Pair it with Psychology to study how belief shapes experience. Combine it with History to understand cultural change and global traditions. Link it with Philosophy to deepen your study of ethics and knowledge. Each pairing broadens your view and supports stronger, more connected thinking.

Buddhist Studies is offered as a minor and is also available as an option within the Master of Arts Coursework programme.
