Research

Ellie's main research area has been in the field of periodontal epidemiology, which began with her doctoral thesis 'Investigating the association between diabetes / smoking and periodontitis in the NZ adult population'.

She has continued with involvement in research by supervising postgraduate doctoral students. As a young researcher, she would like to broaden her horizons and experience different areas of periodontal research.

Her latest interest has been in qualitative research; specifically, how periodontal disease affects those receiving diagnosis, treatment and maintenance care. Having periodontal disease has a profound negative impact but treatment and stabilisation of the disease can empower and significantly improve one's quality of life.
