Several Edgar Diabetes and Obesity Research Centre (EDOR) members have received funding in the latest round of NZ lottery grants. The funding from these grants will go towards a diverse range of health research projects in Aotearoa NZ.
Director of EDOR, Professor Rachael Taylor and her team have received $119,602 towards a new study that will investigate how pre-bedtime behaviours (screen-time, diet and physical activity) affect child and adolescent sleep. Their team hope to use the findings from this study to inform effective recommendations for improving sleep of New Zealand youth.
Professor Ben Wheeler, Department of Women's and Children's Health, secured funding towards a study that will investigate whether artificial pancreas insulin delivery can improve sleep in children and young adults with type 1 diabetes.
Professor Louise Signal from the Department of Public Health, University of Otago Wellington, received $117,487 of funding for investigating alcohol exposure to children online. Professor Signal and her team also aim to come up with solutions to reduce the exposure to alcohol through online platforms.
Associate Professor Kim Meredith-Jones is involved in a research project led by the School of Physical Education that will investigate how body composition may impact the ability of adults to float in water.
