The Educational Assessment Research Unit works to improve the New Zealand educational curriculum.
Working with the Ministry of Education we run the National Monitoring Study of Student Achievement (NMSSA) – Wānangatia Te Putanga Tauira.
The purpose of the NMSSA study is to:
- provide a snapshot of student achievement at Year 4 and Year 8 in English-medium state schools
- identify factors associated with achievement
- measure change in student achievement over time
- provide high quality information for policy makers, curriculum planners and educators
We have also worked on the National Education Monitoring Project (NEMP) – the predecessor to NMSSA.
EARU is based in Dunedin, New Zealand with a core staff of nine dedicated individuals.
