Become an inspiring teacher or study educational influences in our society

The University of Otago College of Education is dedicated to the enhancement of educational practice through high quality teaching, scholarship, research, professional leadership and community service, to benefit children, other learners, educators and the wider community (in local, national and international settings).

Start your teaching career

Teaching is a rewarding profession that changes lives.  The Bachelor of Teaching is a three-year undergraduate degree that prepares graduates for teaching in early childhood, primary and Te Pōkai Mātauranga o te Ao Rua (primary bicultural) education settings.

Use your existing degree to teach

If you already have a degree, the Master of Teaching and Learning is an intensive one-year postgraduate programme that qualifies graduates to become early childhood, primary and secondary teachers.

Study Education

The study of education provides a critical analysis of educational theories, policies and practices.

It is about how societies ensure children and adults become knowledgeable citizens.

Postgraduate programmes

These programmes enable both experienced teachers and those who have studied education to advance their skills and knowledge.
