Research interests include academic motivation, self efficacy, and technology in learning.

Research

My doctoral work in social psychology led me to an interest in how and why students learn, in particular, what motivates students to learn in challenging environments. As such, I have begun a programme of research focusing on academic motivation in health profession education and how the learning environment influences students' academic performance. Aspects of the learning environment that I am particularly interested in include giving and receiving feedback, planning to teach, and using technology to enhance teaching and learning.

I am interested in working with postgraduate students with interests in student self-efficacy, self-determination theory, and more generally academic motivation or student engagement in learning. I would also be interested in working with students with an interest in how technology may be used to support teaching and learning.

Additional details

I started in the field of Experimental Psychology and taught for many years, developing an interest in technology and staff development. Before becoming the Education Adviser, I had the role of eLearning Facilitator, working with staff to develop their use of elearning tools to enhance teaching and learning. I now work with staff on a range of educational matters including the planning, development, delivery, assessment, and evaluation of courses; professional development; research with an educational focus; and confirmation pathway processes.
