The Big Data and Better Ageing Research Group investigates the complex interplay between ageing, health trajectories, and service delivery. We use large-scale health and social datasets to illuminate patterns of frailty, multimorbidity, functional decline, and care needs across the lifespan.
Our research focuses on identifying early indicators of risk, modelling long-term outcomes, and understanding the system-level factors that shape the wellbeing of older adults. Through collaborative, interdisciplinary research, we generate evidence that supports equitable, person-centred care and informs policy and practice for ageing populations.
Our Vision
We aim to strengthen Aotearoa New Zealand's ability to respond to the opportunities and challenges of an ageing population through the responsible use of health and social data. Our research will generate evidence that improves outcomes for older adults while advancing best practice in data governance, Māori data sovereignty, and the ethical application of emerging analytical approaches.
As new technologies reshape health research and service delivery, we will contribute to understanding the trust, transparency, social licence, and governance needed to ensure sensitive health data are used in ways that are responsible, equitable, and beneficial to society.
