Discover what happens when cells and tissues change, and bring new clarity to your study of health, science, or people.

    Why minor in Pathology?

Pathology helps you understand what disease looks like inside the body and why it happens. You learn how cells respond to stress, injury, and infection, and how these changes shape health outcomes. This minor strengthens your scientific thinking and supports study in many areas including biomedical science, public health, and psychology. It gives you a clearer view of human health and helps you explore connections between biology, society, and wellbeing.

    Minor-only subject

Please note: this subject can only be taken as a minor.

A minor subject can be included in many of our undergraduate degrees. To earn a minor, you typically must complete a minimum of 90 points in that subject, with at least 18 points at the 300-level.

Your minor can be a subject more commonly taken for a different degree. For example, a BCom majoring in Marketing can include Japanese as a minor subject. To include this subject as a minor in your application, first find a major subject through our Subject Search or Study Match.

You can check what’s required to receive the minor accreditation in the programme details below.

    Further study opportunities

Whether you are looking to bridge your undergraduate studies to advanced knowledge or aiming to specialise in a specific field, Otago offers a range of graduate and postgraduate options to suit your aspirations.

Add powerful scientific insight to your degree

A Pathology minor works well with many areas of study because it deepens your understanding of how the body reacts to disease. You might pair it with Biomedical Science to strengthen laboratory and analytical skills. You could combine it with Psychology to explore how physical and mental health intersect. It also supports study in Public Health by helping you understand the biological changes behind population health trends. These combinations expand your perspective and open new pathways for future study.
