Senior Research Fellow and Senior TED Fellow Dr. Laura Boykin will deliver a public lecture about the The Cassava Virus Action Project; which is a network of researchers, farmers and collaborators who use genomic technologies to improve the management of these cassava viruses.
By enabling local farmers and scientists in East Africa to sequence and analyse data from their own crops it empowers local communities to make decisions that maximise their crops while also minimising the spread of these whitefly-borne viruses.
Laura won the 2017 Gifted Citizen Grand Prize in Mexico as part of the International Festival of Brilliant Minds and has presented her lab's research on whiteflies at the United Nations Solution Summit in New York City for the signing of the Sustainable Development Goals to end extreme poverty by 2030.
This is a great opportunity for our science community to engage with a brilliant science communicator and inspirational scientist.
