Research
Derek is passionate about biostatistics and research on Pacific health in Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. He is involved in research and the monitoring of the POPO programmes that delivers support services to Pacific students in Health Sciences.
Additional details
Born and raised in Samoa, Derek moved to Dunedin in 2017 to study at the University of Otago and completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Electronics in 2020. He joined the Pacific Opportunities team in January 2024 as an Assistant Research Fellow.
Derek is now living in Ōtepoti with his beautiful wahine toa, together with their young son.
Derek is of Samoan descent.
