Born and raised in Ōtepoti, Kalameli more commonly known as Kala graduated from the University of Otago Business School in 2017 with her Master of Business Administration. Her work with the Va’a o Tautai started in 2017 through her role as the Foundation Programme Coordinator with Pacific Opportunities Programmes at Otago (POPO) where they offer academic and mentoring support for Pacific students studying Health Sciences at Otago University.

In 2024, she will be taking on the POPO Internship Programme which works to provide interns with the opportunity to engage with Pacific health providers across New Zealand during the summer period.

In other professional roles, Kalameli has over 5 years experience managing various retail stores, where she developed key management and organisational skills which she brings to the work she undertakes at the Va’a o Tautai. Kalameli is passionate about student support and encouraging academic excellence for Pacific students in the Division of Health Sciences.
