AIDS notification process
Attending medical practitioners must initially notify all cases of AIDS to the HIV Epidemiology Group (HEG), using non-identifiable data, in the initial notification form or on the Public Health Surveillance website administered by ESR (the Institute of Environmental Science and Research).
Once the HEG has received the initial notification form, the HEG will complete the process by notifying the appropriate public health unit. The notification is processed into EpiSurv which will result in the creation of a web-based detailed notification form. The HEG will send the health provider who notified the case a link to this form, for the health provider to complete online.

HIV notification process
HIV is a notifiable condition. New laboratory diagnoses are notified to the local Medical Officer of Health via the secure web-based EpiSurv portal administered by ESR (the Institute of Environmental Science and Research) using non-identifiable data. Acceptance of the incoming e-notification by the local public health service will automatically result in the HIV Epidemiology Group ( HEG ) receiving access to the information, and in creation of a web-based notification form. The HEG will send the health provider who ordered the laboratory test a link to this form for the health provider to complete online.
