The University of Otago offers a range of scholarships to undergraduate and postgraduate international students each year.

Master of Finance (MFinc) - NZ$10,000

The Master of Finance (MFinc) is a 12 month masters qualification consisting of seven taught papers plus a written project, designed for people seeking a career in the finance industry or for financial specialists in non-financial firms.

  • 10 x NZ$10,000 scholarships for international students starting the MFinc in the first semester (February), 2020.
  • No deferrals allowed.
  • Awarded on academic merit, as decided by the Department of Accountancy and Finance, University of Otago.

Who can apply?

  • International students with an undergraduate degree in either Finance, Maths, Engineering, Physics or Economics, with grades equivalent to a NZ B+ average (GPA 3/4), and who meet the University of Otago's English Language requirements
  • To be eligible to be awarded the scholarship, students must have an unconditional offer (including meeting English language requirements) by 5pm, 31 October 2019 (NZ time). Applicants may be offered the scholarship before 31 October, but if they have not met their conditions by this date, the scholarship offer will be withdrawn.
  • Current international students at the University of Otago are eligible to apply.
  • Students who have been awarded another University of Otago scholarship are not eligible to be awarded this scholarship.

How to apply

There is no separate application process for this scholarship. All applicants for the MFinc programme who submit the following additional documents will be considered for the scholarship:

  1. A curriculum vitae (CV)
  2. A cover letter outlining why they wish to study the MFinc at the University of Otago and why they are an excellent candidate for this programme.

If the documents have not been uploaded by eligible candidates during the programme application process, they will receive an alert in their eVision portal inviting them to apply for the scholarship by uploading the additional documents.

Students will be advised of the outcome of the scholarship if/when an offer letter is issued.

Master of Professional Accounting - NZ$10,000

The Master of Professional Accounting (MProfAcct) provides an opportunity for graduates with little or no experience or qualifications in accounting to pursue professional accreditation through an intensive course of study and applied research over a period of 18 months. On completion of the degree students can gain professional membership with CAANZ and CPA Australia.

  • 10 x NZ$10,000 scholarships for international students starting the MFinc in the first semester (February), 2020
  • No deferrals allowed
  • Awarded on academic merit, as decided by the Department of Accountancy and Finance, University of Otago

Who can apply?

  • International students with any undergraduate degree, apart from Accounting, with grades equivalent to a NZ B average (GPA 3/4) and who meet the University of Otago's English Language requirements.
  • Accounting graduates who studied their undergraduate degree in a foreign language may be considered for admission, and students who have work experience are welcome to apply.
  • To be eligible to be awarded the scholarship, students must have an unconditional offer (including meeting English language requirements) by 5pm, 31 October 2019 (NZ time). Applicants may be offered the scholarship before 31 October, but if they have not met their conditions by this date, the scholarship offer will be withdrawn.
  • Current international students at the University of Otago are eligible to apply.

New Zealand Excellence Awards (NZEA)

In collaboration with Education New Zealand, the University of Otago is proud to offer the New Zealand Excellence Awards (NZEA) for students from India.

University of Otago has 4 x $5,000 postgraduate and 1 x $10,000 Undergraduate Scholarships available, for study in 2020.

Eligibility

All applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years at the time of application
  • Hold current citizenship of India (and not be a citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand or Australia)
  • Hold a minimum equivalent GPA of B+ in your most recent or highest tertiary qualification
  • Hold an unconditional or conditional offer for the one of the NZEA eligible courses

Required Documents/Information

To complete this application, you will need to upload the following documents:

  • Evidence of offer of place at a New Zealand university
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • All academic transcripts
  • Proof of Indian Citizenship and every other country for which you hold citizenship

You will also need to provide the names and emails of two referees to request references.

Generation Study Abroad Excellence and Travel Awards

Education New Zealand and New Zealand tertiary institutions are supporting Generation Study Abroad students with excellence and travel awards. Applicants must be a US Citizen or hold US Resident status. There are two scholarships available for semester study at the University of Otago:

Education New Zealand Study Abroad Travel Awards (ENZTA)

Education New Zealand offers US$2,000 to help students fund their flight to New Zealand.

Generation Study Abroad New Zealand Universities Excellence Awards (NZUEA)

$500 Excellence Awards to US students studying for a semester at the University of Otago.

GoOverseas - USA Study Abroad

GoOverseas offers one major scholarship of US$15,000 for Study Abroad students from the USA to study at a New Zealand university.

In addition, the University of Otago offers three NZ$1,000 scholarships for Study Abroad students from the USA.
