Carbamoyl fluorides that target orphan enzymes, pleiotropic prodrugs and presentation of other Gobec Lab projects

Dr Anže Meden

Covalent drugs, which represent approximately 10 per cent of all approved drugs, but were previously neglected due to safety concerns, have recently taken centre stage in drug discovery programmes.

Carbamoyl fluorides (CF) are a class of underexplored organofluorine compounds with untapped potential for various biology- and medicinal chemistry-related uses. We have identified CFs as covalent inhibitors of two uncharacterised serine hydrolases, ABHD14B and FphI, which was confirmed by in vitro biochemical assays and ABPP chemoproteomics. We are developing CF covalent inhibitors to characterize, detect, or modulate of these orphan serine hydolases.

Other medicinal chemistry projects from the Gobec Lab, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) will be presented, as well as an introduction to the University of Ljubljana and Slovenia – as an opportunity to study, collaborate, or just visit.
