The School of Physiotherapy welcomed two Stanley Paris Visiting Fellows to campus in early March – Professor Chad Cook, from the Department of Population Health Sciences, Duke Clinical Research Institute, Duke University and Professor Nadine Foster, from the University of Queensland.

Professors Cook and Foster held in-person and online workshops over four days for practising physiotherapists, physiotherapy researchers, graduate students and health sector clinicians.

On 5 March, the Stanley Paris Musculoskeletal and Manual Therapy Fund Research Celebration provided an opportunity for the School, along with Otago alumni and friends, to network with Professors Cook and Foster.

During the evening, Dr Stanley Paris, who had just arrived from the United States for a visit, presented the 2024 Research Scholarships and Fellowships. This was followed by a research symposium featuring Professors Cook and Foster, and previous Fellowship recipients.

Summer research projects an opportunity for a taste of reality

Having a real research experience, with unexpected problems and outcomes, was a highlight shared by students and their supervisors at the recent Otago Medical Research Foundation’s (OMRF) Summer Research Scholarships get together.

Held at the Staff Club at the University of Otago, the gathering brought together the summer research students, their project supervisors, scholarship donors and staff from OMRF and the University.

OMRF Director of Development Susan Sims says the evening was a way to bring all the different people involved with the scholarships together and to acknowledge the support given to students by the donors and supervisors.
