Head of Department's welcome

Kia ora and welcome to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Dunedin).

We are one of three departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Otago’s Faculty of Medicine, working alongside our counterparts in Christchurch and Wellington. We are guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and dedicated to improving health outcomes in Aotearoa.

Our department plays a vital role in teaching the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MB ChB) undergraduate program. At the postgraduate level, we convene the Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology and the Postgraduate Certificate in Pregnancy and Medical Gynaecology. If you are considering a career in obstetrics and gynaecology or looking to enhance your knowledge of pregnancy and medical gynaecology care, we welcome enquiries about our postgraduate programs.

If you want to undertake research, our dedicated staff are passionate about fostering academic growth and supervise students undertaking Summer Research Scholarships, the Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSci), Master’s, and PhD studies. We take pride in the real difference our research makes in our communities.

Whether you are a student, a healthcare professional, or a member of the public, we invite you to explore our department, meet our dedicated team, and join us in our mission to create a healthier future for all.

Ngā mihi nui,
Dr Helen Paterson
